Tempo-Driven Training
Controlled tempo ensures each rep delivers stimulus to muscle, not momentum or joint stress.

Tempo-Driven-Training
Tempo is the foundation of how reps are executed inside the Iron Stag Training Method.
It defines how fast or slow each phase of a movement is performed, ensuring intent, control, and consistency across every set.
What Tempo Means
Tempo is written as a sequence of numbers (e.g. 3-1-1):
Eccentric (lowering phase)
Pause (bottom position)
Concentric (lifting phase)
This removes ambiguity from execution and standardizes effort across athletes, loads, and experience levels.
Why Tempo Matters
Increases time under tension
Improves movement quality and joint control
Reduces reliance on momentum
Makes lighter loads more effective
Two lifters using the same weight can get completely different results depending on tempo.
How Tempo Is Used in the Iron Stag System
Slower eccentrics for hypertrophy and tissue resilience
Controlled pauses to eliminate weak-point cheating
Intentional concentrics to drive force production
Tempo is paired with RIR so intensity is earned through execution, not load alone.
The Result
Cleaner reps
Better muscle engagement
Safer long-term progression
Consistent stimulus week to week
Tempo ensures every rep has purpose, and nothing is wasted.
